FORAGE Permaculture Design Framework
Focus – Observe – Research – Apply – Gather – Evaluate
About the FORAGE framework
This Permaculture Design Framework was inspired by walking in nature. The idea came to me to create a simplistic framework with an acronym I could say that I could use for those designs which I was struggling to fit into other frameworks. The result changed my understanding of permaculture design frameworks.

FORAGE Designs

The Framework in Action - Designs using FORAGE

Threats From Development
On the 16th of August 2023, I received a letter from the North Yorkshire Council informing me they have received an application for full planning permission for a residential development of 28 dwellings and associated infrastructure on the land that my house looks onto. The letter from the planning officer told me I had until the 6th of September for the council to consider any comments I may wish to make in writing to them.
In this design, I will take a retrospective look at the lessons learnt from this experience and what can be done to be better prepared when such applications for full planning permission arise in the future.
Kitchen Garden Revolutions
This is my first land-based design using the forage framework. Here I take an element from the Kitchen Garden Design which I feel does not provide the returns I should be getting from the space it consumes in the front garden.
This design is still in the early stages and I’m yet to publish it live on the website. I expect it to be published in March 2023.
My Permaculture Learning Pathway
Here is the final design for my diploma in applied permaculture design. This is part diploma learning pathway and part why the heck did I even do the diploma in the first place. Using the forage framework I weave together the six years of my diploma journey to help understand why the diploma came into my life at a pivotal moment.
Forage Design
This is my first design using the forage framework. It is a design that was part of my diploma in applied permaculture design put together in mid-2022 looking at ways to improve my mental health.
