The Allotment Garden Questionnaire

Vision

To have a low maintenance allotment plot that produces organic food, is a relaxing place to both work and sit and provides a habitat for wildlife.

Basics

A south-facing 108 square meter allotment plot, with soil that has been recently ploughed and rolled. The allotment site is new with around ten plots already let. The annual rent for the plot costs £50. No trees are to be planted in the plots. No fires, polytunnels, sheds or simliar structures are allowed on the plots. Fences are to be no higher than 60 cm.

Wants/Needs

To grow organic vegetables and berries with enough surplus to share with friends. The design of the plot when complete should feel calming and include somewhere to sit and relax. The creation of a habitat for wildlife is important, with a focus on providing food for bees. Plot maintenance needs to be minimal due to the location of the allotment site. An area for composting kitchen vegetable waste will also be needed.

Resources

There is enough money available to fence the plot and to buy any seeds required. Access to all the tools needed both to fence and landscape the plot will be available. Work at the allotment can only be carried out at weekends.

The allotment site has limited mains water and no storage areas.
